Vera Wang

Vera Wang has designed wedding dresses for many celebrities - Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez. Avril Lavigne, Victoria Beckham, Sharon Stone and Uma Thurman.  So when Optique knew she had designed a collection of eyewear, our buyer just had to see them.  Now you can try them on in our Commercial Road branch.

Vera Wang trained as a figure skater and then turned to fashion.  She has won many awards.  She lives in New York with her family.

They are all superb styles, all with Vera Wang's individual touch.  She has a relaxed approach to fashion which make her eyewear perfect to wear.

The Gift of Sight Appeal

This charity appeal was launched to raise funds to support the Gift of Sight Eye Research Centre at Southampton General Hospital.  The money raised is being used to fund vital research into sight threatening diseases such as age-related macular degeneration.  This is the commonest form of blindness in the UK today, affecting 1 in 3 elderly people.  The research team aims to find better treatments and hopefully a cure for this dreadful blinding disease.

The Optician magazine, which is the national journal for opticians, recently awarded the Gift of Sight Appeal "Charity Campaign of the Year 2006".  It is the first time the appeal, set up in 2004, has been recognised for the hard work that has been undertaken.

Propelled by the passion of the founder, Professor Andrew Lotery, Gift of Sight is making significant progress towards a cure and he believes a breakthrough could be just years away.

A trek to Peru was one of the more innovative and challenging ways to raise money for the Gift of Sight Appeal and here are the five trekkers at Machu Picchu in Peru.

Gift of Sight laboratory manager, Angela Cree (second from the right next to Professor Lotery) said "It was very challenging but such a great experience.

I wouldn't have missed it for all the world"
