The Gift of Sight Appeal
This charity appeal was launched to raise funds to support the Gift of Sight Eye Research Centre at Southampton General Hospital. The money raised is being used to fund vital research into sight threatening diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. This is the commonest form of blindness in the UK today, affecting 1 in 3 elderly people. The research team aims to find better treatments and hopefully a cure for this dreadful blinding disease.
The Optician magazine, which is the national journal for opticians, recently awarded the Gift of Sight Appeal "Charity Campaign of the Year 2006". It is the first time the appeal, set up in 2004, has been recognised for the hard work that has been undertaken.
Propelled by the passion of the founder, Professor Andrew Lotery, Gift of Sight is making significant progress towards a cure and he believes a breakthrough could be just years away.
A trek to Peru was one of the more innovative and challenging ways to raise money for the Gift of Sight Appeal and here are the five trekkers at Machu Picchu in Peru.
Gift of Sight laboratory manager, Angela Cree (second from the right next to Professor Lotery) said "It was very challenging but such a great experience.
I wouldn't have missed it for all the world"

Danish design in Southampton
Denmark is known the whole world over for its clean, simple designs – particularly in furniture. The Danes demand high quality, functional strength and lightness.
Pro Design used these attributes to create a look and appeal which is UNMISTAKEABLY Danish. The use of colour on the frames is extraordinary - turquoise mixed with brown and sage complimented by silver. These are just two of the combinations.
Pro Design select one optician only in each town to stock these beautiful frames and Optique is proud to have been chosen. You will not see this eyewear collection in supermarkets or in chain stores. This collection is exclusive to Optique in Southampton.
This eyewear will be in stock initially in our Commercial Road branch and you can get a preview by going to: www.prodesigndenmark.com
